Folding shower doors for wheelchair and disabled access
Client: St George PLC, Fulham Reach
Award-winning London developer St George PLC specialises in regenerating disused areas of the capital, building communities that include on-site facilities such as business centres, fitness studios and restaurants.
For their prestigious new development, Fulham Reach, they asked Showerpower to supply a number of folding shower doors with no base frame, to allow level wheelchair and disabled shower access. The wall-hung doors had to fold back against the wall when access was required and meet a fixed shower panel on the adjacent wall when the shower was in use. Above all, in order to ensure the showers were completely wheel wheelchair/disabled friendly, they had to work without the use of a bottom track.
Showerpower were chosen to supply the shower enclosures for two important reasons. Firstly we are capable of providing the complete enclosure, using correct hinges, glass and sealing profiles to enable the specific functionality expected of the doors. Secondly, our reputation for manufacturing elegant, contemporary frameless shower doors gave St George PLC the assurance that we would fulfil the design aspects of this ‘high-end’ brief.
With the apartments on the market for £850,000 to £3,550,000, the frameless shower enclosures designed and supplied had to be of an exceptionally high standard, whilst maintaining practicality as well as style.
Using wall/glass hinges, glass/glass hinges and push fit sealing profiles, together with our standard fixed panel range, we created shower screens measuring 1.4m wide and 1.95m metres tall.
The client provided their own measurements and installed the product themselves. Knowing how little fitting tolerance was available with frameless shower systems, they ensured that all walls and shower floors were constructed to meticulous standards to ensure a trouble-free fit.
St George were delighted with the finished shower enclosures, which met and exceeded the brief and were delivered on time and on budget: another example of our fruitful collaboration with this highly creative developer.
